Do your homework and be sure that the ripple effect of your church environment does not cause you a multiplied disruption tidal wave of vortexed closed loop anguish that can feel inescapable if they have become your ONLY source for “truth”.
Clearly that (ridiculous & deliberately long and what one would wish was a sensationalist) title will get the attention of some. But that practice is very real and evident of where the ACTUAL “slander” and “gossip” also if not predominantly exists, the trusted “clergy”.
To take from recent stories and SGM’s past, and now more revelations within the Catholic Church, no surprise, make no mistake evangelicalism is rife with the same “mistakes”. How does one cover up sexual exploitation in the hundreds except through a cult(ure) of loose lips, gossip and hearsay within the upper culpable ranks (deliberately confusing and condemning as “gossip” legitimate dialogue amongst congregation members when attempting to address real abuses in the upper ranks) on how best to manage the damage control along with the schemes of shutting down questioning dissenters to keep “sin”- (aka “mistakes” when committed by clergy) that could jeopardize their comfortable applecart$- internal and hidden within the closed loop system of “church life”.
Yet in relation to the title this went on and goes on all while pretense continues for the sake of “gospel” (personal) profiteering to survive, in many (not all) church organizations. One clearly needs to be extremely careful in some of these toxic environments what and with whom issues are disclosed. I have come to learn and realize that the harder the messages and stance in support of “reformed doctrine” along with the weighted “teachings” on the practice of the “Disciplines of Grace” the more likely that the leadership of such churches will have the propensity to be unhealthy at the top and handle questioning and dissent in toxic ways downstream.
Many pastors who enjoy bearing the role of “biblical counsellors” are not actually professional counsellors whatsoever and have no actual legal responsibility to not use your story or confessions as grounds of accomplishing whatever motive for their own means and ends as questioned in the title. What other reasons for Mr Pat Sczebel and “leaders” like him- beyond criminal requirements to report abuse- would there be to ethically violate the trusting relationship of a church member and what is presumed to be airtight confidentiality with even members of his own extended family and their “sins”, other than a perverse/evil and utterly unprofessional intent to gain the trust of promising “pillar” newcomers OR the faithful who are beginning to ask questions wanting them in and onside to look the other way? These are backed up facts I experienced personally with that man and confirmed with by former members of his defunct Crossway Church, not heresay, especially when Pat was known by many to have very “loose lips” at opportuned times.
As I stated not all clergy carry out these unethical practices, but the “business of church” is a competitive racket & reality for those who are at the head of it (often it’s not Jesus, at all!) and any leverage that would possibly endear and make a target family feel like a privileged insider can only be ROI positive to the churches bottom line. Right?
It goes without saying that these types of individuals SHOULD be held to account for such unethical (not to mention “unbiblical”– the more evangelically acceptable term) egregious breaches of trust and confidentiality while galavanting around from church to church, conference to conference and sermon to sermon receiving “honorariums” for “services” rendered.
These stories and events are real and come from more than just me {the apparent chief “gossip and slanderer” as noted by the “gospel centered” haters of the many splintered tribes – for good reason, go figure – and cult(ures)}.
Unlike these individuals I will clearly not be providing the details for the sake of the people or victims of these tactics involved.
This is merely a warning to be mindful with whom you receive “counselling” in the unregulated “pastoral/biblical counselling” industry. You will understand one day. Especially when the church’s “teaching” compels (a topic I’ve touched on in the past) you to believe categorically that ONLY “BIBLICAL COUNSEL” is of ANY value. In effect funnelling members and visitors alike internally into the closed loop system of so called “church life” and their often dismissive and unhealthy “biblical counsel”. Very concerning ideologies I use to hear and is still preached even as recent as yesterday by the splintered pastor group that once (with some still) associated with the destructive SGM or now disgraced and rebranded yet still endorsed & surviving Sovereign Grace Churches group.
Some (few I would say) can provide excellent and actual meaningful and intelligent counsel that has it’s origins not only in Bible truths but also on well founded and researched (research that the many neo-calvinist conveniently and ignorantly disparage) modern understandings of the psychology of the soul and can provide genuine help, relief and peace over time. Looking for professional credentials and personal references that are outside of and NOT (within the same drinking water) associated to the church in which the “pastoral counselor” candidate “oversees” is key. Otherwise you may be further damaging your personal well being as Rachael Denhollander (a former victim turned powerful advocate) clearly eluded to in this article.
If an individual suspects they may have been the subject of unidentified breach of confidentiality being mentioned above and is concerned, feel free to contact me via email at endpastoralabusedeception@gmail.com and we will meet locally to verify the facts and the rest is up to you. Remember, this is about a pattern of unethical breach of trust (and a host of other unanswered issues that we ARE aware of) by pastoral individuals who otherwise would never be held accountable and should NEVER be permitted to continue. Troll hate mail and commentary is always still welcome and always “serves” to validate that I’m on the right track. (I see they’ve started to come in, in a record 7 minutes after post publish) 😉
